About Brian Polite

Brian Polite (AKA B. Polite) was educated at Pratt Institute’s School of Art and Design majoring in Computer Graphics. In the last decade he has earned a reputation as a historian of House Dance and New York City club culture, appearing on panels, workshops, and lecture demonstrations nationally and internationally.  He is a member of the neo-folkloric ensemble Ase Dance Theatre Collective, co-founder of house dance company Afro Mosaic Soul Dance Collective, advisor to Kut the Rug Institute, and one third of the vernacular jazz-meets-hip hop-and-house dance trio The Rhythm Conclave.

About the workshop

He will be leading a House Dance workshop using music from the underground dance clubs of New York City that shaped the evolution of the dance.  Particular attention will be paid to how the cultural values of the dance community created the aesthetics that define House Dance.

*Open. The workshop are open level which means all levels are welcome. But it will not be suitable for beginners therefore we recommend some dance experience. Not particularly in the same style as the workshop.

The workshops will be held in english.
